Start your Novena to the Divine Mercy on Good Friday!

The Feast of Divine Mercy is celebrated by the Universal Church on the second Sunday of Easter, and there are many graces promised to those who prepare themselves spiritually for this day.

Jesus promised that: The soul that will go to confession (within several days before or after Mercy Sunday) and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment...Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet.(699)

Jesus goes on to say: Yes, the first Sunday after Easter is the Feast of Mercy, but there must also be acts of mercy...I demand from you deeds of mercy, which are to arise out of love for Me. You are to show mercy to your neighbours always and everywhere. You must not shrink from this or try to excuse or absolve yourself from it. (742)

Thus, to faithfully celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy, we must:
1. Celebrate the Feast on the second Sunday after Easter by going to Holy Mass
2. Go to Confession within several days before or after that Sunday
3.Receive Holy Communion within that same time period
4. Be merciful to others through our actions, words and prayers on their behalf.
A good way to perform these acts of mercy and to prepare spiritually for this Feast Day, is to say the Novena to the Divine Mercy. It starts on Good Friday, it is authored by Jesus Himself, and it was at His request that we bring to His Heart a different group of souls each day of the Novena.
