Are we there yet?

Here's a fun little game for parents who want to keep their kids occupied on trips. It's called Geography. Here's how it works:

  • You start the game by naming a geographical location.
  • Use proper nouns/names of real places; cities, countries, and continents.
  • You might start with Arkansas, for example.
  • Your child has to come up with the name of a different city, country or continent that starts with the last letter of the place you named. In this instance, your child would have to come up with a place that starts with the letter "S".
  • The game continues on, with the first letter of each new geographical location starting with the last letter of the previous location named.
It's fun, it passes the time wonderfully, and it makes kids think about spelling and geography without boring them.

Here's a little tip to make the game come to an end when you arrive at your destination. Choose a place that ends in the letter "X" like Ajax, for example. Bet your kids will be stumped on that one!

Vanishing Point or Gone in 60 Seconds?

What do you all ( I mean y'all) think of this 2008 retro Dodge Challenger? I saw one a few weeks ago, and I'm tempted. I didn't test drive it, mainly because there were no sales people willing to come out in the torrential downpour and get soaking wet. (They do have umbrellas, don't they?) There was no sticker price, either, and I haven't had a chance to go back yet.

I hear it only gets 18 MPG, so I'm betting that the sticker price is pretty negotiable right now. Yeah, I know it's got a 6.1-liter Hemi V8, but I just like orange cars I guess. They are so easy to find in a huge parking lot. Even with sunglasses on!

Just dreaming, I guess. I'll probably keep the Mustang. After all, it is orange.

Another mindless waste of time

Here's something fun I found over at Defenders of the Faith. Do you have the reaction time of a cheetah or a snail? The best I can do is "Bobbing Bobcat." It told me to get a cuppa coffee and try again.

Test your reaction time

Mine is 0.2598 seconds.

Here is the link. Just follow the directions. It turns out I've never heard the song that was topping the charts on the day I was born!

A little humour for you

a warning,

and an amazing tunnel/bridge that goes under water to allow movement of ships . It turns out I had the wrong location for this bridge, and to read the proper reference go here. It would be kind of creepy driving over the water like that and then disappearing into an underwater tunnel!

Lego Church

Sometimes the neatest things arrive in my email! And often they are from Manfred...These pictures are of an actual Lego Church that took a year and a half to build. (Someone really has a lot of time on their hands!)It measures about 7'x5' and seats 1,372 Lego people, and boasts 3,976 windows. It's made from over 75,000 Lego pieces. Pretty amazing, isn't it?

Road to Hell?

Here's an amazing array of photos of an incredibly hair raising road in South America. Be thankful you don't have to drive on it! Every trip down this road must feel like a narrow escape! This was originally sent to me as a Power Point slide show, but I couldn't get it to load here in that format. Thanks Tom, for converting all these slides to JPEG for me.

How far to the Church?

Are we there yet?

I hope I make it to Mass on time.

I wish I had of gone to confession this morning.

Say your prayers!

Say it isn't true! I'm NOT a total traditionalist?

H/T to Happy Catholic

You Are 48% Feminist

You aren't a total traditionalist when it comes to gender roles. But you're no feminist either.
You generally think that women should be treated as equals, but you're not convinced the world should be gender neutral.

Memed! Things that don't bother me

Julie over at Happy Catholic tagged me in a meme, to tell about

Things that (or People who) don't bother me:

Here's my list of things I can tolerate that might be bothersome to others:

  • lousy drivers (I'll stop and scrape you off the road when you crash)
  • people who don't wear bike helmets ( If you fracture your skull, I'll help you out)
  • repetitive questions from old ladies who walk by my house every day
  • people who talk on cell phones in restaurants
  • people who stop in the middle of the road to gawk at wild animals ( I just turn the sirens on to get their attention - it's kinda fun!)
  • going without food or sleep
  • people who arrive early
  • getting up early
  • rainy days
  • storms
  • dogs, even if they are loose
  • television sports (I'm good at ignoring the TV)
  • noisy kids, even in Mass
  • dumb questions, especially from tourists
  • people who think I am an ambulance driver
  • visits from JW's
  • washing windows
  • cleaning bathrooms
  • answering memes
I tag Anita over at V for Victory and Angela Messenger, and Karin at Wife and Mom of Two, Father Joe, and Father Gonzales at Overheard in the Sacristy.

Just for fun, I also want to tag Father Tim over at the liberal dissenter blog Spirit of Vatican II.

The Great Canadian Game

I'm Canadian, so that makes me a hockey fan. I found this on Paul Nichol's blog, and couldn't pass it up! I'm rooting for the Vancouver Canucks, of course!

Why Hockey is the perfect Catholic Sport:

- The penalty box is called the "Sin Bin"
- If you do something really bad, it's a given that some serious
temporal punishment is coming your way.
- The gravity of your offense determines your time in the penalty box.
- They have a penalty called cross-checking.
- A Zamboni is like a "confession-mobile;" it cleans the ice of all
imperfections between periods.
- Blood is shed regularly.

And the #1 reason that Hockey is the perfect Catholic sport is:
- When you win it all, you get the "CUP".

Gone in Sixty Seconds

Well, maybe not quite sixty seconds. I just took my car out of storage today, and I've never even had it in fifth gear yet. It's a Retro '69 Fastback Mustang, 2007 model, with all the current technology, but has the appearance and original colour of the 1969 Fastback models. I'm heading to Calgary in it tomorrow to attend the FSSP Mass. I'm looking forward to both the Mass and the drive.

Dante's Inferno Test

Take the Dante Inferno Hell Test

Whew! I made it to Purgatory!

You Have Been Judged

You have escaped damnation and made it to Purgatory, a place where the dew of repentance washes off the stain of sin and girds the spirit with humility. Through contrition, confession, and satisfaction by works of righteousness, you must make your way up the mountain. As the sins are cleansed from your soul, you will be illuminated by the Sun of Divine Grace, and you will join other souls, smiling and happy, upon the summit of this mountain. Before long you will know the joys of Paradise as you ascend to the ethereal realm of Heaven.

Where Did You Get Your License?

Here's a driving test I can never pass, but I think most of the drivers on the road today got their licenses in Hazard County.

I especially notice this type of driver when I am driving the ambulance with all the emergency equipment activated. The law is to pull over to the nearest shoulder and let an emergency vehicle pass. Not slow down, pull over! What part of that don't people understand?? It does no good to merely slow down on a blind corner and make the ambulance pass in the oncoming lane. Pull over people, when you see an ambulance coming. It might be your family member we are trying to save.

End of rant...

Now, THIS is Snow!!

I keep reading on other blogs south of the border about the tough winter you guys are having. But this is Canda, and we just take it all in stride, but then we're used to it.

The Canadian military is in charge of shooting down the avalanches in the National Parks, and you can see they use real cannons. Real toys for real boys.

Just another day in the life of a Canadian winter.

Anyone for snowmobiling?
