Defending the Faith

Here are 12 myths every Catholic should be able to expose.
How many can you answer?

1. Christianity is no better than any other faith. All religions lead to God.

2. Why should I believe the Bible? The Old and New Testaments contradict each other countless times.

3. I don’t need to confess my sins to a priest. I can go straight to God.

4. People’s memories of their past lives prove that reincarnation is true...and that the Christian view of Heaven and Hell is not.

5. Properly interpreted, the Bible does not condemn homosexuality.

6. If the Church truly followed Jesus, they’d sell their lavish art, property, and architecture, and give the money to the poor.

7. Catholics should follow their conscience in all things...whether it’s abortion, birth control, or women’s ordination.

8. Dissent is actually a good thing, since we should all keep our minds open to new ideas.

9. There’s no such thing as absolute truth. What’s true for you may not be true for me.

10. I don’t need to go to Church. As long as I’m a good person, that’s all that really matters.

11. Natural Family Planning is just the Catholic version of birth control.

12. Someone can be pro-choice and Catholic at the same time.

You didn't think I was going to give you the answers did you? To get them go here.

Simon, I take it you have strong opinions about Crisis? I can email you the answers if you want them. They are too long to post here. Yes, I am posting from Seattle. We are heading home tomorrow after the TLM. Thanks to everyone who prayed for a safe trip.

What can anyone have against "Crisis"....apart from his bottom?

I'd be interested to read what they have to say about dissent.

We truly are in a crisis - a crisis that does not exist, of course - if 40 years after the great awakening these questions are seriously asked by Catholics and directed to other Catholics.

11. NFP

There was a rather amazing exchange between protestants and a Catholic priest (TP) on carm.org where the protestant actually declared that not engaging in the marital act was contraception!!! Poor father... he is so patient with those folks.

Isn't Fr. Corapi awesome? He came here in '04; the bishop walked out and apparently later told the organizers hot to have him come back.

Mark, that was your parish where that happened? He mentioned he wasn't welcomed by all bishops. Too bad, their loss, and actually since they
are responsible for the souls in their care, it's a much greater loss. I like when Father Corapi says he's not going to hell for anyone, meaning he's going to speak the truth and teach us enough to save our souls, even if it's hard to hear. My kind of priest!

He isn't welcomed because he won't polish their halos.

He is a good man, terribly in love with His Mother. Frankly, you have just given me a very good idea too...

thanks!
