What I am Reading

A few weeks ago, a friend gave me the book, The End of the Present World, (and the Mysteries of the Future Life) by Father Charles Arminjon. It was written in the late 1800's, and was read by Saint Therese of Lisieux at the age of fourteen. St. Therese stated: Reading this book was one of the greatest graces of my life. I read it at the window of my study, and the impression I received from it is too intimate and too sweet for me to express...All the great truths of religion, the mysteries of the eternity, plunged my soul into a happiness not of this earth.

It is a book about the Antichrist. It is a book about the end of the world as we know it. It is about the devastation and treachery of the Antichrist, but it is also about the triumph of Jesus Christ. The book goes into great detail about the the signs that must appear before the end of the world; the signs of the Antichrist and how to recognize him; the four last things, and how not to be deceived.

I can`t put it down. I am going to pass it on to Shirley after I read it.

Thank you! As I was reading this post, I was thinking I'd like to read it too. Someone at our church donated all 4 volumes of City of God to out parish library, so I am reading those.

Well, that book looks like a likely candidate to add to my swelling collection! I will have to order that.

One of the local parishes has been culling its library and giving away unused books...I have about a mile-high stack of classics that I have picked up, including many Fulton Sheen books. (I'd like to back a truck up to the library, but that might be in poor taste. The sight of me trying to balance a tower of tomes coming down the front steps is probably already pushing the envelope.) I am just about finished reading Evidence of Satan in the Modern World by Henri Christian (published by TAN Books). Quite compelling.

I've heard about this book and have wanted to read it for a while, I can't help but wonder what so struck St. Therese about it. I'll have to pick it up!

Whoops, I got the author of Evidence of Satan in the Modern World way wrong. It's Leon Christiani.

Thanks, everyone for your comments. Yesterday, I must have accidentally placed comment moderation on this blog - now I have removed it. Sorry about that!

I'm nearly finished reading it - it's a great book. I wish more priests preached on this stuff so that souls can be saved and not fooled by the things of the world.

It's sad to think that so many contemporary Catholics rarely regard the supernatural - to their own demise.

Just ordered my copy! I also ordered Bella Dodd's School of Darkness, about the Communist infiltration of the Catholic Church during the 20th century. (Sorry, I bought the only affordable copy. The next cheapest one available was $99.00. The rest are in the hundreds of dollars. Why I don't know!)

Well, Shirley, it took 11 years, but I finally lent you that book!
