A different kind of Holy Hour

Today, being the Feast of the Assumption, even though it is not a Holy Day of Obligation in Canada, has my parish offering a Marian Holy Hour prior to the evening Mass. Today is Wednesday, and we always have Adoration on Wednesdays. I went to adoration at noon today, and decided to come back for the Marian Holy Hour, thinking it would be done in front of the Blessed Sacrament, which in our Church, true to post Vatican II Canadian form, is reserved in a side chapel.

I expected to see people assembled before the Monstrance, singing Marian Hymns and praying the rosary, but what I saw surprised me. The statue of the Blessed Virgin, which is at the close end of the Church, just outside the chapel, had lit candles and flowers adorning it. So far so good. But there was a semi circle of people sitting around the statue, singing Marian hymns and then they began to pray the rosary.

There was one person adoring Jesus in the Monstrance, so I went in there, thinking that I just couldn't leave Jesus alone to join the Marian group outside the doors of the chapel. We have had Marian Hours before, but never like this. I ended up leaving early, because it was impossible to pray and meditate in the chapel with the vocal group outside the doors, but I will go back for the Mass.

Have any readers here ever had that kind of experience for a Marian hour when the Blessed Sacrament is exposed? It seemed really odd, very much like ignoring Jesus in the Monstrance, if I were to go join the group praying in front of the statue.
