Canada's Prime Minister, who is an evangelical Protestant, received Holy Communion at a funeral Mass last Friday. But according to some reports, he put the Communion Host either in his pocket or in the program rather than consuming it. In the video below, you can clearly see that the Prime Minister does not consume the Host. Since there isn't a priest in Canada who doesn't know Steven Harper isn't Catholic, it begs the question - why was he offered Communion in the first place?

Well, she did ask...
As I walked in the door this afternoon, the phone was ringing. I picked it up to find a political party on the other end, trying to solicit my vote in our upcoming provincial election. This wasn't just any party, mind you, it was the pro-choice, pro-homosexual marriage, pro -just about everything the Catholic Church does NOT stand for party that goes under the guise of the New Democrats.
I experienced a brief moment of joy, similiar to what happens when I see the Jehova's Witnesses walk up the path to my door. The last time they were here, I invited the two lovely JW ladies back for a discussion on hell, how Jesus actually died on a cross and not a torture stake, and a disclosure on just how it is that they came to believe that Jesus is really Saint Michael the Archangel. That was a month ago. I haven't seen them since.
But I digress. The telephone campaigner wanted to know if they could be assured of my vote, and asked me if I would be voting NDP in the May 12 election. I told her that I was very familiar with the platform of the NDP and she eagerly asked if I had voted for them in the past. I told her that yes, I had made that mistake once in my youth, but I would not ever repeat it. She wanted to know why, so I took the opportunity to let her know that I cannot in good moral conscience vote for a political party that promotes homosexuality and abortions.
She couldn't hang up fast enough. I don't even think she said goodbye.

back from the dead
How appropriate that on the day after America elects a jack-booted communard to the highest office in the land, I should crawl from my mouldering grave. There's irony there somewhere. Or a fortunate happenstance. Here's some post-election analysis like you can't find anywhere else. Nor would you want to.
We should all thank Arizona's Senator Planters (as in nuttier than a can of) and his dim bulb neo-con advisors for steering his campaign into the ditch long about Memorial Day. Despite his temporary flash of brilliance in selecting the hottie running mate, it's generally a good thing that this check pants wearing Republican went down to such ignominious defeat. Republicans have always been better as an opposition party anyway. So, know your strength.
Liberals, as they always do, will take this election as a signal to implement their radical agenda and they will overreach. Pride goes before the fall, as the old saying goes. And libs have more than their fair share of that. They inherited it from their daddy, who got tossed out of heaven by St. Michael with a gaggle of his cohorts because of it.
This is what happens when you allow idiots to choose their own leaders. The American people don't want a president. They want a daddy who will tuck them in at night and hug them and tell them everything is going to be ok. Someday, they will want a dictator, and they will get one. Whether he (or she) is a Republican or Democrat, I can't say. But they'll get one. Plato pointed out over 2,000 years ago that democracy inevitably leads to tyranny. If a buggering pagan can see that, why can't the denizens of our enlightened age see it? Voting leads to tyranny. Which means by voting, you contribute to the inevitable collapse of our society. Stop your internal dialogue. That's logic, a subject with which I am somewhat familiar. So, don't argue.
And what of our beloved Catholic Church? For some reason, the US bishops have chosen to throw in with the Republicans the past few elections. If history is any indicator, when the Church decides to align herself with a certain ruling class or ideology, the result rarely redounds to her benefit. Or to put it another way (as Batman might say), "When you dance with the devil in the pale moonlight, you don't change the devil. The devil changes you." When it comes to the sweaty midnight grope fest on the veranda between the USCCB and the Republican party, chances are good that no one wearing purple is going to look better after the encounter.
Finally the biggest winner (aside from the pinko and his baby-butchering Hollywood homo hordes) is Canada. That's right. Our home and native land as it were. The result allows our Canadian brethren to feel better about their own nation. Sure, we have it bad up here in the True North, strong and free, they'll think to themselves. But look what those chuckle heads just elected. Then they'll point and laugh and swill some more beer. And Canadian self-esteem rises precipitously. (The Canadian dollar, however....not so much.)
Now. I'm dead again. Until the next time the hoi-polloi do something incredibly stupid which requires my prescient analysis. [And I still need prayer which, might I remind you, is your obligation as a Christian. So get to it.]
Oh, and the Oakland Athletics still suck.

Top Ten Predictions of Change for America
Obama represents change to America, like it nor not. Most will not, I suspect. He has said his first official act will be to sign the Freedom of Choice Act, a concession to Planned Parenthood who fully supported his candidacy - and millions more babies will die. What else will he do? Here are my top ten predictions of what changes will be forced on America.
10. Obama will get rid of the phrase "In God we trust," on American currency, and replace it with "In Change we hope."
9. The US will become fifty seven states under Obama's leadership, with the seven new ones coming from Kenya.
8. Firearms will be banned in America, so will the Fox network.
7. Joe Biden will step down from the Vice Presidency office and be replaced by Oprah Winfrey.
6. Under the tutelage of Bill Ayers, burning the American flag will become a ceremony at the White House.
5. The White House will change its name to the House of Hopeful Change.
4. The Pledge of Allegiance will be replaced with Michelle Obama's senior thesis.
3. Gay marriage will be entrenched as law in every state in the Union.
2. Obama will create a Planned Parenthood Hall of Fame, funded by American tax dollars, with a life size statue of Margaret Sanger as its focal point. Nomination criteria will be associated with how many abortions a woman has had or how many babies a doctor has killed. Its first inductee will be Dr. George Tiller, and the head office will be located in Kansas. Dr. Henry Morgentaler of Canada will gain honourary status in this new American institution.
1. Obama will finally locate his birth certificate - in Kenya, but with Kenya sporting the seven newest states in the Union, he will be legally allowed to stay in the Oval Office.

Let it rain
If it rains in most of America today, John McCain should win the election. It seems the Democrats fare better when the weather cooperates on election day. The fence sitters, who are inclined to vote for the Democrats if they can only get energized enough to get to the voting booths, are easily discouraged by rain and adverse weather says this study. So, let it rain - but let God's will be done.

Good for a laugh
A laugh is always good, and politicians certainly put themselves in the public arena where their mistakes get magnified and eventually turned into political satire. Here's one that showed up in my email today, and it's not about Sarah Palin or Barack Obama. This one pokes fun at Joe Biden, and if you need a laugh right about now, click here.

In case you're undecided
I am no Hilary Clinton fan, but I came across a quote of hers (on Obama's lack of credentials for the highest office in the free world) that I quite like:
I have long said that John McCain will bring a wealth of experience to the campaign trail, and that Barack Obama will bring a speech he wrote in 2002.

Update on Fasting for America
The Redneck Catholic has updated me with the numbers of prayer warriors who have committed to spending three days in prayer and fasting for the upcoming US election. Obama beware!
From the email:
From the email:
The count is up to 83 people commited to prayer and fasting for the election. If 17 more commit, there will be an even 100!If you want to join in this growing effort, click here. Maybe someone should start a Facebook page for this intention. That always seem to circulate really fast.
Since I thought it would be a good job to get 20, this is exiting! and, the call has gone out to places, even physical bulletin boards in Churches, to prayer groups and bible study groups, so I really have not idea how many people have joined in who haven't clicked on the counter.
So really, between patriarch Bartholomew , Patriarch Alyski, His Holiness, and the agenda for the upcoming USCCB meeting, I have a bit of hope this week!

Moving a Mountain Redneck Style
Americans may very well wake up on November 5 to find that Barack Obama has driven a hell-bound freight train across their country, leaving in its wake a changed America, one the founding fathers would not recognize were they alive today. Obama seems to have the majority of Americans under his spell; he has somehow blinded them to his ties with left-wing extremists and crooks.
It seems only the pro life crowd can smell danger clear enough to bypass his name on the ballot. But will their numbers be enough to keep Obama from gaining office? One blogger who goes by the pseudonym Redneck Catholic thinks so. He is organizing as many people as possible to commit to three days of prayer and fasting leading up to the election. So far, at least forty people have joined the ranks of this spiritual army of prayer warriors.
In an email The Redneck sent me today, he compares the political situation in the US to the temporal dimension of a spiritual battle between good and evil. He goes on to cite the Gospel passage of Matthew 17 where Jesus casts out a demon from a boy the Apostles were unable to. When the Apostles complained to Jesus they had failed in their attempts to rid the young man of his demons, Jesus told them that some demons can only be cast out with prayer and fasting. He said if we only have faith as a mustard seed, we could move mountains, and nothing will be impossible to us.
Nothing will be impossible, not even a small army of forty prayer warriors defeating a political candidate favoured by millions.

Before You Vote
Canadians are going to the polls tomorrow, October 14, and Americans soon after. If you have any doubt about how important it is to be a moral voter, you can view this video produced by CatholicVote.com that was sent to my inbox today.
Fearing the Nanny State
There is a very interesting article over at the blog Cosmos-Liturgy-Sex (I always wondered how they came up with that name). The article has to do with the dangers of the nanny state, the concept that America is distinctly two political solitudes, and how these views are irreconcilable with each other. The article ties this in to what has happened in Europe and Canada, and how dangerous this is for the Church:
Go to the original article to read the rest and find out the answers to these questions. It's definitely food for thought for those who have the power to change the course of events by a single vote.
The Church cannot survive “Nanny State” fascism/socialism. This has been borne out in western Europe to a great extent, but most of all in Canada itself. Sandro Magister’s recent article shows that Quebec is basically lost to the faith. A new evangelization is required there. But it is not even clear that Nanny State drones/citizens are capable of being opened up to God’s grace, without divine actions being taken that are, from a worldly perspective, catastrophic.
The upcoming election in the United States portends the coming of Canadian-style, Nanny State tyranny to the United States. The situation is much more ominous than the mocking description “Nanny State” would imply. What does this sort of “soft” socialism, or “benign” fascism, do to the political order?

From zero to hero?
How much influence do you think the political satires of Tina Fey portraying Sarah Palin are going to have on the voters in America? I don't even watch Saturday Night Live and I've come across all the videos. They certainly are funny, there's no question. But they portray Governor Palin in a very poor light, making her look like a complete dolt. Even in Canada the media favours Obama and loves to attack Mrs. Palin. Is the media just wielding their considerable power of public persuasion to discredit Governor Palin in an attempt to ambush John McCain? Or is Sarah Palin’s naïveté about world affairs simply too irresistible to pass up? Whatever the reason, with the election looming, this woman whom McCain plucked from relative obscurity and positioned in a role of political magnitude that she had little preparation for, has a tough job on her hands.
Let me pit her against Obama, the master of speech eloquence. You will see what I mean.

Understanding the name game
Here's a really interesting little video on how the deceptive naming of a bill can get people to vote for it. It's all about pulling the wool over the eyes of those who haven't done their homework. Check it out!
