HPV Vaccine - a dangerous innoculation

I mentioned the dangers of the HPV vaccine in another post a while ago, and since Canada has now implemented this vaccine for grade six to grade nine girls, starting this year, I want to bring to your attention this article by MacLean's Magazine of Canada.

If you are a parent of young girls, you need to read about this vaccine, as it will be introduced as a mass inoculation for a whole generation of girls starting this year. Dangerous and unnecessary , it has caused illness and death to some who receive the vaccine. Here are a few paragraphs from the MacLean's article:

By CATHY GULLI | August 27, 2007 |

The morning after Emily Cunningham got a shot of Gardasil, the new vaccine that protects against four strains of the human papilloma virus (HPV) that can cause cervical cancer and genital warts, she woke up with a headache, and neck and back pain. By 9 p.m. that evening in April, she had a fever so high "you could feel the heat rising from her a foot away," according to her mother, Laurie. She was delirious during the night, and the following day couldn't walk without assistance. Bedridden for nearly a week, the 18-year-old from Wyoming missed school, and took Tylenol every four hours. "If Emily had been the only one to get sick we would have said she must have had something else [like the flu]," explained Laurie, "but we know of three other students to have reactions, that is why we are concerned."

Emily's story is only one of 1,637 complaints involving Gardasil, filed as of May to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), a national surveillance database sponsored by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States. One could discount what happened to Emily because she had a flu shot that same day, but other really bad reactions have been reported, including seizures, paralysis -- and worst of all, three deaths, including one girl who "died of a blood clot three hours after getting the Gardasil vaccine," reads one complaint. Elsewhere in the world there have been reports of similar reactions. In Melbourne, Australia, where a national HPV vaccination program started in April, 26 girls reportedly fainted and were mildly paralyzed after getting one shot each....read the rest here.

Edit: July 7, 2008 - Since this post from 2007 shows up frequently on Google searches for the dangers of HPV, I would like to direct readers also to this post, which is dated July 4, 2008. Please read it if you are concerned about Gardasil.

PG-
Is Canada like the USA you can refuse to immunizations for religious reasons? Or does everyone have to get them regardless what (exept for medical reasons that is)?

Also check this out..they are now pushing this vaccine on young men..

PG-

Sorry, I just read that mandatory immunizations ar not the case in Canada...so cant these parents just say NO to this vaccnine??

Samantha said...

Wow, that's honestly the first I've heard of it.. and it is being pushed down here like the end-all-beat-all.

Karin, yes you can refuse it. But like Samantha notes, you have to actually be informed of its dangers to even think about refusing it. How many unsuspecting parents are allowing their children to be vaccinated with HPV, not knowing that girls have died and become very ill after the vaccination?

True, sorry did not think about that aspect. I just "assumed" that there doctors would say soemthing to them regarding the pros and cons of the vaccine (I assumed all doctors do that becuase mine does..sorry)

Karin, it may different in the US, but vaccines are the domain of the Public health nurses in Canada. It is a huge part of their reason for existence as a government agency, and they promote them to parents, and make every attempt to discredit the pro life and religious views of parents who question the vaccine.

Sure you can make an appointment and go talk to your doctor about the vaccine, but most parents never do. They just take what Public Health says at face value and line their little darlings up like good little citizens to receive their government funded vaccinations.

Ah, that is the difference here in the US our own personal doctors give the vaccines. So we get to question to our hearts content.

Is this one of the pitfalls of the type of healthcare system that you have in Canada? Also from the article you quoted...Canada has one of the lowest amount of cerival cancers...why the push?

Why the push? Good question. Vaccinating young girls for sexually transmitted disease may be one way to undermine their innocence and make them more susceptible to society's pro choice agenda, for one thing.

It also undermines moral and religious upbringing of our nation's children, making them subconsciously think that premarital sex is OK. "Heck, we've been vaccinated against Hep B and HPV, so why not engage in premarital sex?"

Another factor may be the investment of the pharmaceutical companies into public health. The Canadian government is spending 300 million on this program for HPV. That's a lot of money. Where do you think most of it will go?

the Catholic Church in canada from what i see on the news really making a statement that this vaccine is like telling girls, hey, its okay to be promiscuous which its not okay to be.
they are opposed to it. and so am i.
relations are meant to be between a man and his wife, and not umarried people. this telling young girls to get vaccinated is sending the wrong message.

This is a huge problem everywhere; the pharmaceutical companies are pushing drugs on us,and have politicians in their back pockets, because of the amount of money they are prepared to put up to get their products to be accepted as main stream. If you watch any TV at all you will be inundated with ads for pharmaceuticals for every thing from birth control to cholesterol to a good nights sleep. They even control the FDA. And you can be sure that a healthy populace is not their goal- they don't make money if you are healthy! (Sorry for the rant but this is my pet peeve). The best way to prevent HPV is to practise chastity, as every good Catholic should know, but you can be sure that message will never be promoted by public health nurses!

Shirley, you and I are on the same train of thought here regarding pharmaceutical companies. Why, people might even think we are sisters! ;

They also want to immunize newborns with the Hep B vaccine, which is only something high risk groups get, like IV drug users and homosexuals. We declined this and all other newborn immunizations.

American's aren't immune to this push - various states have proposed making this vaccine mandatory for highschool girls.

I have no objection in theory to a vaccination against HPV - once (and if) it were proven in both effectiveness and safety I might even vaccinate any girls I have. Not every sexual encounter is consensual, you know! But these large mass-scale drives make me uneasy, especially with such a new and unproven vaccine. Leave it up to individuals to take those risks, and let time and further research show the results.

I doubt that the reason for the 'pushing' of this vaccine has anything to do with religious groups "telling young girls that it's ok to have premarital sex".

Get real. Cervical cancer, like MANY OTHER types of cancer have recently been shown to originate from viruses. HPV has been shown to be an effective way to protect yourself from viruses like HPV and, ultimately, protect yourself from a deadly form of cancer.

The HPV vaccine does not, nor does it ever claim to, protect against or prevent standard STD's. It simply tries to reduce the chances that a genital viral infection will turn into a cancerous problem.

With this being said, Canadians still should discuss with their doctor about possible side effects of the vaccine.

Anonymous, (I am assuming that you actually do have a real name) what I said was one of the problems with the HPV vaccine is that it also undermines the moral and religious upbringing of our nation's children, making them subconsciously think that premarital sex is OK. "Heck, we've been vaccinated against Hep B and HPV, so why not engage in premarital sex?"

That is why parents and children who believe in abstinence do not agree with this vaccine. (aside from the health issues and side effects that have been well documented from many sources)

I can't believe people's religious convictions would allow them to look for any reasons to justify not getting the vaccine, and in doing so, seriously jeopardize their daughters by not protecting them from a virus that dramatically increases the likelihood of dying from cervical cancer. Not to mention the cancers men can get from it as well.

HPV is transmitted through skin to skin contact, not just sexual contact.

I could maybe understand the resistance if it was for something for that was only sexually transmitted. However, it is not, and not protecting ones children from this virus when it is so easy to do, is honestly horrifying.

No wonder atheist are always so down on religion as causing more evil than it does good. As stuff like this just kind of proves their point.

Sue, you obviously missed the text in the several reports I linked where the health dangerts of the vaccine have been documented. Either that, or you have stock in Merck.
