Once consecrated, sacred vessels may not be touched by persons who are not in Holy Orders, except in cases of necessity. Those given charge of the care of the vessels should use a small linen cloth when handling them, so that they do not actually touch them. They are to be handled with reverence.

I told my priest this, and he claimed that I didn't want to touch the sacred vessels because I didn't have a personal relationship with Jesus...
Way before my time...but I wish more priests felt this way and got rid of those Sunday wanna be's !!!
You bring up a very important point. Someone must be disobeying previous councils and Popes here. Either the New Order is disobeying previous doctrine or the SSPX is disobeying new doctrine.

Until the priests promote reverence the laity won't have any. It goes hand in hand with all the other things going on, such as gossiping loudly before Mass, lack of modest dress, not believing in the Real Presence. etc....
