From the Pieta

PRAYER OF ST. GERTRUDE THE GREAT

A Prayer which would release 1,000 souls from Purgatory each time it is said.

Our Lord told St. Gertrude the GREAT that the following prayer would release 1,000 souls from Purgatory each time it is said.

Recommendations: Pray it at least twice, to at least release twice as many souls! After the prayer, ask the Holy Souls to pray for your intentions.

"Eternal Father, I offer thee the most precious blood of thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory. -Amen"

Our Lady said that if we pray the prayers "we'll deliver so many souls, so many souls!"

"The Holy wounds are the treasure of treasures for the souls in Purgatory."

That is a beautiful prayer you posted.

Have you ever come across the Prayer of Commendation? It's one of the most beautiful prayers in all of Catholicism, usually given during the Anointing of the Sick or Last Rites. Here is an abridged version of that prayer:

"Go forth, Christian soul, from this world
in the name of God the almighty Father,
who created you,
in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God,
who suffered for you,
in the name of the Holy Spirit,
who was poured out upon you.
Go forth, faithful Christian!

May you live in peace this day,
may your home be with God in Zion,
with Mary, the virgin Mother of God,
with Joseph, and all the angels and saints. . .

May you return to [your Creator]
who formed you from the dust of the earth.
May holy Mary, the angels, and all the saints
come to meet you as you go forth from this life. . . .
May you see your Redeemer face to face. . ."

The last line..."May you see your Redeemer face to face..." are some of the most beautiful words you can recite to someone in their final hours. I love this prayer.

I haven't heard this prayer before. I am going to put it in the sidebar of my prayer intentions blog.

Tom, I love that prayer you posted! When my brother died in June, it was one of the prayers the priest prayed for him at his bedside. It is indeed a very beautiful prayer.

Therese, you have a great idea to post that prayer in your side bar! Now every time someone says it devoutly, the Holy Souls will receive the graces from their prayer.

This is the kind of thing the "Good" sisters of Providence warned us about in High School, Pius, Overly Devotional, and obscuring THE MISSION: Social Justice.

I LOVE IT! Thank you for Showing it to us!

Awesome post, PG!!! Do you mind if I copy it and paste on my blog?

Btw, is The Pieta a book?

paramedicgirl said...

AquinaSavio - yes, of course you can use it! I'm surprised you've never heard of the Pieta Prayerbook. It is a little blue-covered prayerbook that is instrumental in a lot of conversions. If a lukewarm Catholic starts to read one, they usually become red hot for their faith! You can access it online here.

I will save that in my "To Read" list. I've got to finish Secret of the Rosary first. :-D Thanks!!

Btw, I just talked to my mom, and she does have the book. :-D
