What's up lately

I have been really busy lately, and there doesn't seem to be any end in sight. I work four days on and four days off, and this weekend on my days off, we are going to visit family in different areas of the province. It will be a whirlwind trip, leaving Friday and back on Monday with stops in four cities for visiting and catching up. I've also been getting ready for Christmas; I even started before Halloween. I love the preparation for the Christmas season. I have most of my Christmas shopping done and wrapped already, mostly because we are making a journey across the province this weekend to visit family. I plan on taking everything with me and putting it down their chimneys a month early, rather than mailing it. Canadians will understand - Canada Post charges a small fortune for a small parcel.

Last night, we dug out all the boxes of Christmas decorations, and my first task when we get back will be to start decorating the house. Having the house decorated is one of my favourite things about this special season. We have three fireplaces with mantles, so each one will become a focal point for that room. I am still looking for a creche set for one of the mantles. I had planned on ordering a beautiful set from the US, but I waited too long, and now our dollar is too low to pay the exchange. I will post pictures when I am done. Until then, light posting while we are away. Mass on Sunday will be at the Cathedral in Nelson - I am hoping to meet the new Bishop, or at least, hear his homily.

I used to decorate for Christmas when i was back home. But once i moved here to Canada somehow i don't like Christmas any more. I guess moving to a new place during a feast which is primarily to deal with family is tough.
I get irked when I see all the lights and the decorations now. Other than going for Midnight mass i spend the day at home. The whole commercial aspect of Christmas here in Canada does nothing to lessen the general irritation i feel at this time.

smiley, it must be tough to be away from family at Christmas. I plan on going to Midnight Mass, too. it will be the first time I have been to High Mass in the Latin rite for Christmas.

I love to walk into stores that are decorated for Christmas. One thing I noticed that I do not like, are the angels and Holy Family that are faceless. It creeps me out. I also hate the emphasis on "holiday." It is the Christmas Season. Call it what it is.

Hang in there P-Girl.

Oh and Smiley, cheer up! You can find warmth in friends and family. Don't let the commercialism get you down!
