Name this Saint

Time for a little Catholic pop quiz. Today, in some places, this saint`s feast day is celebrated in the traditional calendar. Can you answer these questions?

Can you name this girl, the daughter of a peasant farmer, who became a martyr for the faith? Early in life, around the age of thirteen, she was privileged to `hear voices` and see certain saints bathed in a bright light as they spoke to her.

Can you name the saints who appeared in this vision to the peasant girl?

And now, for the giveaway picture! But do you know the king`s name for whose coronation she was directly responsible?

Leave your answers in the combox.

The Maid of Orleans herself, Jeanne d'Arc ... Joan of Arc. Happy Feast of Saint Joan of Arc, the titular feast of my beloved parish!

Has anyone else seen the film "The Passion of Joan of Arc?" It is a truly beautiful film and it uses the transcripts of her trial as the basis of the story.

Sainte Jeanne d'Arc, ora pro nobis!

Joan of Arc (Jeanne d'Arc) saw visions of St. Michael, St. Margaret and St. Catherine (of Alexandria). The king was Charles VII of France. Regine Pernoud has written a very fascinating biography if you are interested.

PS. I have been praying for your mom and you. The long term care route is hard, but sometimes the only answer.

St Joan of Arc and the king was Dauphin, the son of king Charles VI.

I love it when you put these pop quizes up. I always look forward to your post. May God bless you for all you do for Him through this blog.

Wow! Everyone passed the pop quiz!

Mallys, thanks for the prayers - my Mom is living with my sister right now; she just got out of the hospital a few days ago, and is set up for family-style care with a nurse coming every day to check on her.

Sister Allie, I will have to check out that film - I wonder if it is the one I have already seen.

Anon, thanks for reading my blog!

Great pictures; you do find the best artwork for your blog. Did you know St. Catherine of Alexandria is mom's patron saint?

Thanks Shirley. Yes, I see Mom has a statue of St. Catherine by her bedside. I think Marilena gave it to her. Mom also loves St. Monica, for her prayers and resulting conversion of St. Augustine. I think Mom has been our St. Monica, with her life of prayers for her 10 children!
