Marked

Here's one tattoo you won't want your daughter to come home with. Active members of the lesbian community often tattoo small nautical stars behind their right ear as a sign to advertise they are in the gay community. This star has five points in its design and is supposed to indicate the sign of direction or guidance feelings of a person, as well as their fight against "repression". Fifty years ago, when lesbian women would hide their sexual orientation, these stars were tattooed on their wrists and covered by wristwatches during the day, and revealed at night when they were out and about. Now they wear them behind the right ear, easily visible with the short hair styles many of these women prefer.

I bet there are unsuspecting young girls out there are who have seen these tattoos and thought they were cool, then went and got one without knowing what it signifies.
