As you all know, I have moved away from Vancouver where I was blessed to be able to attend the Latin Mass at an FSSP parish for the last three years. On Sunday, I attended my first Novus Ordo Mass in my new town. It was pretty much as I remembered it, except for two things. There was no Apostle's Creed. I have to give the priest the benefit of the doubt - maybe he just forgot. I wanted to ask him after Mass what happened to the Creed, but I didn't get the opportunity. The other thing was that the Mass was over in 45 minutes, even with a choir. I thought most NO Masses lasted for an hour, at least that is what I recall.
On the positive side, the church is an old one, and still maintains its former beauty. As soon as I unpack my camera and find the charger, I will be taking photos.
On a completely different note, here is a warning I came across for all parents who have teen aged children. We have all heard about the spike in teen suicides, and here is one of the reasons why. It's hard to know what our kids are doing every moment of the day, and what pressure they are under from their friends. Parents, take heed, and have your teenagers watch this news clip so they will be forewarned.

On weekday Masses there is no creed, but not Sundays. Cafeteria cathedral?
This was a Sunday Mass. We went right from the homily to the prayers of the faithful. I will see what happens next Sunday, and if it is omitted again, I will catch up to Father after Mass and ask him about it.

Gotta give him the benefit of the doubt, Tom. Maybe he was ill or something. But if it happens again, he's gonna hear from me!
We just got a new priest a couple of weeks ago and I think he caught more than a few folks off guard by having us recite the Nicene Creed rather than the Apostles' Creed. Two Sundays in a row. If this is a regular occurrence, I won't be unhappy. Just nice to have my Magnificat on hand, though.
I know that in my parish, depending on the friar, (we have three Franciscans)during the week sometimes they drop a section here or there for reasons unknown to me. I don't ever remember the Creed being left out, though. This is nothing new to me. I've been blessed to attend Mass in many different places and the reasons for the different takes on the N.O are many and varied, and too many for me to vent about here. I try to keep a positive outlook on all priests, praying for them all. They are on the front line of attack, even if some of them don't know it or acknowledge it. Nancy, it is correct to recite the Nicene Creed. For some reason in Canada, most aprishes use the Apostles Creed. I remember having a new priest some years back comeinto our little partish in Golden and he used the Nicene Creed, which no one was used to. It wasn't long before a woman came up to him and said, "Oh but Father, we say the Apostles Creed here! It is better for the little children to memorize for their rosary." And then, the Nicene Creed was gone. Just like that. Interference in the Mass from the laity should not happen.
I love Vancouver - must have been difficult to leave.
