No thanks

In the tidal wave of nausea called ecumenism, a Catholic bishop in Holland has called for the Dutch people to pray to God as Allah, in order to pacify the Muslim people. This has to be one of those instances where it is not only OK, but entirely permissible to disobey your bishop.

that is absolutely outrageous! I'll bet our Pope will have something to say about that.

In 1998, Mother Angelica read on-air a letter from our friend, Cardinal Mahony, that had some less-than-orthodox statements re the Real Presence and the "community" at "worship" (sorry, I don't recall the name of the document). Anyway, after reading one particularly vexatious paragraph, Mother acknowledged, "If I were living in that archdiocese, I'm afraid my obedience factor would be about zero." Mahony al, but declared war on her after that and Foley became bishop of Birmingham. Perhaps things will change with the new bishop.

If the Pope has something to say about this, I would bet that we will never hear about it.

Bishops have to be extremely outrageous, or controversial (as in the case of Cardinal Law or Archbishop Weakland) for Rome to take action.

i read this over at Catholic Answers. i simply stated that i call God, heavenly Father, Eternal Father, Almighty God, and God. iam not comfortable calling Him allah. i wont do it. its not His name.

be aware that "God" is not his name either, and that "Allah" is only Arabic for "God." Arabic bibles use the term "Allah."

Perhaps we should pray with the Dutch word for "God" on behalf of this confused bishop...

Mark, if we were to use the word "Allah" to appease the Muslims, we would be subscribing to their heresy of not believing in the Trinity.

I agree the bishop is confused. There are too many confused bishops leading people into heresy these days.

I agree with you paramedicgirl.
This subject happened to be on talk radio (fm107.1) in Mpls this morning. The host(who's also an ordained Episcopalian minister) was okay with worshippers using "Allah" if it meant that everyone in the world will get along more peacefully. He also cited exactly what Mark said about "Allah" being used in the early bible well before the term "God" was used. The host suggested that we in the US are most likely too independent-minded and unbending to ever try replacing the word "God" with the word "Allah".
